THIS WEEK’S REPORT FOR EXHIBIT CITY NEWS – Feb. 4, 2014

ECN Eddie, a creation of Gary Jesch of CHOPS, reports weekly on the latest happenings in the tradeshow, exhibition and convention industry.

PUBLISHER OF ECN GETS EXCITED

In a collaboration with Exhibit City News of Las Vegas, NV, ECN Eddie has taken over the news anchor duties of Publisher Don Svehla, who started the newscasts last July.

Svehla was excited when he heard that things were changing for his newscast, as being in front of the camera wasn’t his favorite part of the job. He said he’d rather be behind the scenes, watching 3D Digital Puppeteer Gary Jesch control the ECN Eddie character and create the newscast recordings.

Jesch is working closely with the ECN team, including Zeenath Haniff, managing editor and video producer Ron Garrett, a well-known broadcaster in both the Las Vegas and Reno areas. Zeenath provides the script and other content, while Garrett helps with all the other loose ends of the webcast. Jesch uses his background in broadcast journalism and his webcasting and video production skills to bring a high level of HD quality to the project.

CHOPS & ECN PLAN EXHIBITOR BOOTH FOR 2014

CHOPS & Assoc. Live Animation is co-exhibiting at the upcoming Exhibitor 2014 in Las Vegas. They will be demonstrating the Virtual News Room as part of the March event’s New Product Showcase, live on the trade show floor. ECN Eddie will share the anchor duties with VirtuaLibby, a female avatar performed by Dana Stamos.

NO STUDIO NEEDED WITH VIRTUAL NEWSROOM

The Virtual News Room was created by Jesch to solve the problem of needing studio space, engineers, lighting, make-up, cameramen, directors, etc. in order to do a high-quality newscast. He uses two computers for his programs, which can be seen live or on-demand. At virtual events, the virtual anchors can handle interviews and live presentations with ease, supporting a presence on the show floor and online at the same time.

VIDEO SOFTWARE MAKES PRODUCTION FAST

ECN wanted their broadcast to be played from the YouTube platform and their ECN playlist. We used our amazing Brandlive broadcast page platform to let them review the show before it went up on YouTube and we are so impressed with this player, that we are also presenting it from this page. That way, it can easily be seen as an iframe from a Facebook app or as a stand-alone page.

USE THIS LINK to view the broadcast from our broadcast page.

Other software we used to produce this piece – XSplit, Adobe Premiere Pro CC and Easy HMTL5 Video. We recorded the animation in XSplit with a Blackmagic Design capture card connected to our 3D Digital Puppeteer system, and then edited the piece in Premiere before exporting it as a high-def Flash file. The Flash file was used as a master for the YouTube upload as well as for conversion via Easy HTML5 Video into the various web video formats we need for all devices visiting our broadcast pages on BrandLive. Then we simply point a link to our server where the HTML5 folder is and it is ready for viewing. FAst, clean, great quality, and can easily be repeated each week with new content.

Stay tuned each week for news and updates on tradeshow trends, firms and industry members.
